As of July 24, 2025, Wilmington has a new landmark. Bold, permanent, and unmistakably ours.
The massive mural on the back of ShopRite at Christina Crossing, painted by Christian Kanienberg of WISH UNLIMITED, is more than a wall of color. It’s a tribute to the rhythm, energy, and culture of this city. It moves, it cooks, it plays.
Stretching the full length of the building between Walnut and Market Streets, the mural is now the largest in Delaware. It captures moments that feel both intimate and collective: a basketball game in motion, a kid on a bike racing through the city, a jazz musician mid-note, and two kids cracking up over fruit slices. It reflects the pulse of Wilmington—alive with food trucks, front porches, courts, and concert stages. All of it wrapped around a grocery store, a literal gathering place for everyone in the neighborhood. It feels just right.
Christian Kanienberg (WISH) — The Vision Behind It All
This mural exists because of Christian’s vision, creativity, and relentless execution.
He didn’t just paint the wall. He designed it from scratch, shaped the story, and brought it to life over weeks of work in the summer sun. Christian has a rare ability to reflect a community back to itself in vivid motion and meaning.
This is not his first mural for the Kenny Family. His first was at the ShopRite of 1st State Plaza in Newport. With this latest piece, the collaboration has grown in both scale and impact. What began as a wall is now a landmark. What started as a commission is now a memory etched into the identity of the city.
Thank You to the Kenny Family
This moment wouldn’t exist without the Kenny Family, who own and operate the ShopRite at Christina Crossing and five other stores across Delaware. Their commitment to the community goes well beyond groceries. Since founding the Kenny Family Foundation in 2008, they’ve donated more than six million dollars to nearly 1,000 local organizations, supporting food access, arts, education, and more.
As Melissa Kenny puts it:
“Serving the community is what inspires and drives us.”
And it shows in every part of this mural.
Documenting the Journey
Controlled Creations was proud to capture this project through aerial photography and drone video. We documented each stage as Christian brought it to life. The sweat, the color, the cheers from pedestrians. This wasn’t just a mural. It was a movement.
Years from now, people won’t say “You know that ShopRite near the riverfront?”
They’ll say, “You know the mural.”
And everyone will.
